The Orangeville Junior ‘A’ Northmen announced the appointment of Nick Rose as the team’s new General Manager earlier today.

The move was made after Bruce Codd resigned as GM & Head Coach of the iconic Canadian club. Codd, who has a long history with the Northmen as a player (1994-99), coach and in team management, took over coaching duties in September 2017. He led the Northmen to their seventh Minto Cup victory in 2019, the last time the historic trophy was played for.

Rose, who like Codd, played for the Northmen organization during his entire Junior career, has served as the team’s Assistant General Manager since 2014.

“It is an exciting time for the Northmen organization and I am truly honoured to attempt to fill the massive shoes that Bruce is leaving behind with the GM role,” Rose said in today’s announcement. “Thank you to Bruce and his wife Nicole, who just had one of the best runs in junior lacrosse ever in my opinion, with both of our clubs.

“The success our teams have had is directly because of their leadership. I look forward to doing everything within my power to continue to uphold the tradition that many people have helped build before me. The goal for the Northmen does not change, as every season, our ultimate goal is to end the season hosting the Minto Cup.”

Rose helped capture two Minto Cups for the Northmen (2008 & 2009) and is presently playing in his 13th National Lacrosse League season as the starting goalie for the Toronto Rock. Codd currently serves as a Rock Assistant Coach.

During last summer’s condensed Ontario Junior Lacrosse League season at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre, the Northmen went 3-5.

Orangeville’s announcement also confirmed that Rose’s first responsibility will be finding a new head coach to replace Codd. The Northmen’s Assistant Coaches are Rusty Kruger & Phil Sanderson.

Codd’s regular season coaching record with Orangeville was 41-25-1. During the OJLL playoffs, Codd had a 19-11 record, winning Ontario’s Iroquois Trophy and previously mentioned Minto Cup in 2019. The Northmen had a perfect record during that year’s Minto, including a 3-0 sweep of the Victoria Shamrocks in the final.
