Clutch Kings: Team Rankings

In addition to our Clutch Kings leaderboard, which is still topped by the Colorado Mammoth’s Eli McLaughlin and teammate Connor Robinson, this week we’re also looking at which teams have accumulated the most clutch points based on our formula (game-tying, go-ahead and game-winning goals, full scoring system available below the leaderboard at bottom of the page). We also pulled each club’s Top 5 Clutch Kings point producers, again, based on our weighted formula.

The Mammoth, who are arguably the hottest team in the league right now, have been getting critical clutch production from the previously mentioned duo, plus others. They safely sit #1 in our team rankings below.

The San Diego Seals, who at the mid-season mark were our #1 ranked clutch team, have slowly been sliding here, and ditto in the league standings after their fifth straight loss last night. While our Clutch Kings ranking takes into consideration an entire season (vs. a per-game average like our Player Rankings), Seals’ forward Casey Jackson, who has spent several weeks on the IR in 2022, still ranks in San Diego’s Top 5 below having played far fewer games than most.

The Halifax Thunderbirds ranked #2 here during their 8-1 start, but have dropped even further than the Seals after a shocking 1-5 slide. As they have for much of the season, Halifax’s power-play percentage is last in the league. Of the Thunderbirds’ Top 5 clutch-point producers below, only Austin Shanks (4) and Dawson Theede (4) have scored on the PP during the 2022 season, and half of Theede’s happened in a PCLC jersey. During the 2020 pandemic shortened season, Halifax scored the most power-play goals in the league, plus their PP% ranked first in the East Division too.
