Burlington acquires Trent DiCicco in blockbuster deal with KW
The Burlington Chiefs and Kitchener-Waterloo Lacrosse Club pulled the trigger on a blockbuster trade today that will see Trent DiCicco (Ohio State) in a Chiefs’ jersey this upcoming Ontario Junior Lacrosse League season.
To secure DiCicco’s services in what will be his final year of OJLL eligibility, the Chiefs dealt a pair of players and picks to KW, who get Kaden Kublinkas, Ty Anselmini, a 2024 first-round pick and a 2026 second-round pick as part of today’s significant swap.
KW had three picks in the first round of this year’s OJLL Entry Draft, selecting Ty Jesso (Halton Hills), Chris Rathwell (Centre Wellington) and Alex Hicks (Clarington), as well as securing a number of other future firsts and seconds in deals earlier this year. Jesso and Rathwell were recently named co-winners of the Rock Elite League’s Sandy Chapman Award.
In DiCicco, the Chiefs obtain one of the league’s top players, who in three seasons with KW had 34 goals and 60 assists in 44 games. The Guelph product finished second in team scoring during their 2021 season behind Tye Kurtz (Delaware).
The Chiefs, who were OJLL Finalists in 2019 and finished with a 6-3 record during the league’s condensed season at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre last summer, are expected by many to be a top team in the league in 2022.
Earlier this week, KWLC acquired Kaz Nizielski from the Toronto Beaches in exchange for a second-round selection in 2023 and a second-round selection in 2026, and also picked up Ryan Brooks from the Oakville Buzz, who have also been extremely active in recent weeks.
