Seven games on last day of NLL regular season will set new pro record

Earlier this year, the National Lacrosse League was all set to host the most games on a single day in professional lacrosse history, but less than 24 hours before a new record could be registered, well, it wasn’t.

In late January, all 14 of the league’s teams were schedule to play on the same day. Those seven regular-season games would have been the most pro lacrosse games squeezed into a single day, ever.

More than any previous NLL, Major Indoor Lacrosse League or Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League season had. Easily more than Major League Lacrosse or the Premier Lacrosse League. Most definitely more than the two-team LXM Pro Tour. Even more than any long forgotten pro indoor league from the 70s or earlier.

The Lax Mag hyped the significant day as Super Saturday. With games being paused and rescheduled due to pandemic-related restrictions throughout the 2022 season, getting those seven games in was shaping up to be quite an accomplishment.

The day before that record-setting Saturday, a snow storm sped into the state of New York, and the Riptide were forced to bump their home date against the Buffalo Bandits to a day later. Super Saturday was officially squashed.

Well, three months later and the NLL is days away from hosting seven games on the last day of their 2022 regular-season schedule. With three teams fighting for the final two post-season spots, Jeff Shattler playing his last NLL game before officially retiring, Dhane Smith and others running down their own regular-season records, as well as other late-season storylines, this Saturday should end up being even more super and special than the one that slipped away last January.

As outlined in an NLL release sent to media earlier today:

With one weekend of regular season play to go, several National Lacrosse League (NLL) matchups have critical playoff impact. Georgia (9-8), Albany (8-9) and Philadelphia (8-9) can still claim the final two spots, while Colorado (10-7), San Diego (9-8) and Calgary (9-8), which have already clinched the three West Conference slots, are vying for the West Conference regular season title and home playoff games in their respective contests this Saturday, April 30.
