The Lax Mag has confirmed with Vancouver Warriors GM, Dan Richardson, that star forward Mitch Jones will be sidelined for the foreseeable future after sustaining a freak injury during a practice last Friday in Denver.

The Warriors were preparing for their Week 9 game against the Colorado Mammoth at Foothills Fieldhouse when Jones sustained the injury. Richardson confirmed that Jones had successful surgery this week and would be sidelined on the team’s long-term IR while recovering and rehabbing.

The specifics of his injury were not shared. An official team announcement is expected to be made soon.

Updated Feb. 2, 2022 8:45pm ET: Jones shared on Instagram earlier today that his surgery was for, ironically, a Jones fracture, which Medical News Today defines as “…a break between the base and shaft of the fifth metatarsal bone of the foot. The fifth metatarsal is the long bone on the outside of the foot that connects to the smallest toe. A Jones fracture is a common type of metatarsal fracture and is the most severe type of fracture that can occur in this bone.”

Jones had arguably been the team’s top player so far this year, and was considered by many to be an MVP contender during the National Lacrosse League’s unfinished 2019/20 regular season.

Over four games this year, Jones had registered 12 goals & 14 assists. This past Saturday, the team was clearly lacking his high-end point production when the Warriors scored just four goals in their disappointing 9-4 loss to the Mammoth. After a promising 2-0 start to the season, Vancouver has dropped their last three contests and currently sit third in the West Division behind San Diego (5-1) and Colorado (4-1). The Warriors host the expansion Panther City Lacrosse Club (1-5) this Saturday at Rogers Arena.

TLM ranked Jones 7th overall in our pre-season Top 100 Player Ranking. The now wounded Warrior was also a Top 5 regular in the TLM NLL Player Rankings during this year’s season.
