Vancouver GM Dan Richardson recovering well after mild heart attack
For those that watched the TSN Game of the Week between the Vancouver Warriors & Toronto Rock this past Saturday evening, you may have heard the broadcast team mention that Vancouver General Manager Dan Richardson had not travelled with the team for their season opener.
Instead, Richardson was back home in British Columbia recovering from a mild heart attack the Warriors front office leader sustained last month.
In recent weeks, Richardson was experiencing spasms & pain in both his back & neck after what was thought to have been just an accidental fall going up some stairs. A handful of days later, the severe discomfort had moved to his chest. Doctors would soon confirm he had sustained a mild heart attack. An echocardiogram identified three small blockages, which were later repaired with stents.
Richardson was released from the hospital last Friday. His early recovery has gone well and Richardson says he’s feeling much better.
“Warriors ownership, Assistant GM Ken Thomas, our coaches and players, and most of all my family, have been very supportive throughout all of this,” said Richardson. “Thank you to all the friends in the lacrosse world who have reached out over the last two weeks.”
Taking a week off after surgery, Richardson hopes to back in the Warriors office soon. He has a follow-up appointment this week with a cardiologist.
“I’m so impressed with the B.C. health-care system,” he said. “The staff at Eagle Ridge & Royal Columbian Hospital are all world class.”
The Warriors, who lost to the Rock 19-8 in their opener, travel to Calgary this Saturday to take on the Roughnecks (9:30pm ET). Richardson will again be watching his team from home while he continues to recover.
