Shawn Evans sets new Mann Cup career points record during Game 5
Peterborough Lakers forward Shawn Evans has rewritten Canadian lacrosse record books, his first point in tonight’s series-swaying Game 5 of the Mann Cup placing him #1 in career Cup points.
The Lakers are currently locked in a heated series against the Western Lacrosse Association champion Langley Thunder. The teams were tied at two prior to Wednesday night’s opening faceoff.
Evans tied John Tavares’ total of 203 in Game 4, tonight topping his former Major Series Lacrosse teammate’s total with an assist on a first period Lakers goal.
Third behind Evans & Tavares is fellow Lakers legend John Grant, who’s career Mann Cup point total finished at 174.
Evans, Tavares and Grant all played together for Peterborough from 2010-2012, the trio winning two Mann titles during those seasons. Their last win together was against the same Langley Thunder team Evans is tangling with tonight.
Playing for both the Rochester Knighthawks & Halifax Thunderbirds during last year’s National Lacrosse League season, the 36-year-old Evans remains one of just a handful high-profile unrestricted free agents in the pro league.
Over the first four games of this year’s Mann Cup, Evans as 3 goals and an incredible 22 assists during the Senior A series.
Game 6 is set to take place this Friday night at 8pm (ET), a series-deciding seventh game happening on Saturday at 7pm (ET), if necessary, of course. All games are hosted at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
