The West Division-leading San Diego Seals have moved Austin Staats back to the team’s active roster while also placing Casey Jackson on their injured-reserve list.

The Seals host the Colorado Mammoth at Pechenga Arena tonight at 10pm ET.

Staats, who was rumoured to be sidelined for the entire 2021/22 National Lacrosse League season with a suspected significant knee injury, was instead a surprise active roster addition back in mid-December. The former first-overall draft pick and 2018 NLL Rookie of the Year was having an outstanding season prior to his most recent injury (lower body). Although not currently listed on the league transaction page, Staats was moved to the team’s IR sometime after their 10-9 win on March 4th against the Calgary Roughnecks. Staats finished the game with 2 goals and 3 assists.

Jackson had recently been reactivated after a lengthy stretch on San Diego’s IR and played in the team’s thrilling 10-9 comeback victory over the Saskatchewan Rush on March 11th. In the game, Jackson was helped off the floor in the third quarter after a collision left him in obvious discomfort and pain. The Seals did tweet that Jackson returned to the game.

The Lax Mag confirmed with Seals GM & Head Coach, Pat Merrill, that Jackson is presently sidelined with a lower-body injury.

San Diego had traded for forward Brett Hickey ahead of this past Tuesday’s NLL trade deadline. It is anticipated that Hickey will get his first start with his new team against Colorado later today.

The Mammoth moved backup goalie Tyler Carlson to their IR ahead of tonight’s game in San Diego. Carlson relieved starter Dillon Ward in last night’s wild win against the Vancouver Warriors. Carlson collapsed in his crease in the third quarter after landing awkwardly after a Warriors goal. He was helped off the floor and would not return.

Colorado rookie netminder, Nate Faccin, has been moved to the team’s active roster to backup Ward. Faccin, a 2020 4th round pick for the club, is a recent BCJALL Goalie of the Year while playing for the Coquitlam Adanacs.
