The California Collegiate Box Lacrosse League’s Royals are once again National Collegiate Box Series National Champions after defeating the Connecticut-based Revolution 9-3 in the tournament finals taking place at the USBOXLA Nationals in San Jose.

The Royals took last year’s title as well, beating Upstate New York’s Armory in a thrilling OT final.

Leading for the entire first half, the Revolution looked in control of the title-deciding tilt, but the Royals flipped the script in the second half. Led in large part to a 42-minute shut-out stretch courtesy of the brilliant back-stopping by goalie Caleb Mackie (Lambton College), plus a five-goal effort from Miles Botkiss (Harvard University), the Royals took over in the final two frames to capture their second straight national title by that previously mentioned 9-3 final.

The Royals also got goals from Jake Govett (University of Delaware), Marquez White (Princeton University) and Griffin Poll (Davenport University). All three of the Revolution’s goals were scored by Chris Crapanzano (University of Scranton), a former Team USBOXLA member who represented the association in the Trevor Wingrove Memorial Tournament in Coquitlam, British Columbia.

Both teams were coached by current & past National Lacrosse League pros, as were many youth and NCBS teams taking part in the season-ending event. The Royals bench was led by the likes of present-day San Diego Seals players like Cam Holding, Wes Berg and Casey Jackson, while the Revolution staff included former 50-goal scorer with the New York Saints, Roy Colsey.

Check out a collection of highlights that flooded social media feeds over the last few days, which also included the other four NCBS teams that competed: Hawkeyes (UCBLL), Stoneflies (CCBLL), Rivermen (OCBLL) and Grays (MACBLL).
