Rock & Desert Dogs deal again, Las Vegas acquires Reid Reinholdt

A few weeks ago, the Toronto Rock sent Rob Hellyer to the Las Vegas Desert Dogs in part to accommodate their highly-regarded forward’s soon-to-be west coast working situation.

In a somewhat similar scenario, the Rock & Desert Dogs pulled the trigger on another deal due to geography, Toronto trading British Columbia-based forward Reid Reinholdt to Vegas for a second-round selection in the 2026 NLL Entry Draft.

The Rock acquired first-round picks in the 2024 & 2025 draft for Hellyer in mid-August.

“Reid has laid down some Vancouver roots and the travel back and forth wasn’t going to work for either side any longer,” said Rock Owner, President, and GM Jamie Dawick in yesterday’s trade announcement by the team. “Reid wanted to look at moving to a western team, and Las Vegas was somewhere he wanted to be.

“We get a decent pick down the road in return, so it works out well for everyone. We will miss him around here, and if the circumstances were different, he would still be here. We wish him nothing but the best.”

Reinholdt, when healthy, has been an impressive off-ball force for the Rock over four seasons with the team, last year scoring 13 times in 15 games with Toronto. The new Desert Dogs forward was placed on the Rock’s injured list on April 30 this year (his last game with the team was on April 16 vs. Halifax), and was never readded to their active roster. Reinholdt had been sidelined for a short stretch earlier in the season with what the team described as a “lower-body injury”. He had been left exposed in both the Panther City Lacrosse Club & Las Vegas Desert Dogs Expansion Draft over the past two summers. .

In recent seasons, Reinholdt became the Vice President & Executive Director of the National Lacrosse League Players Association. Earlier this offseason, the NLL & NLLPA agreed on a new three-year collective bargaining agreement.

The Desert Dogs draft second overall in this weekend’s NLL Entry Draft at The Carlu in downtown Toronto. Although they’ve added future high picks in recent weeks, the Rock do not hold a selection, currently at least, in the first round of the 2022 draft.
