The Lax Mag has confirmed with multiple sources that the Rochester Knighthawks have traded Shawn Evans to the Halifax Thunderbirds. It’s believed Rochester will get back multiple draft picks in the exchange for Evans.

An official announcement is expected to be made by the teams later today.

After ten games this season, Evans has 9 goals, 38 assists, and leads Rochester in points with 47. The future NLL Hall of Famer was selected first overall in the 2019 Expansion Draft by the Knighthawks and has served as the club’s assistant captain the past two seasons. Evans spent his first six seasons in the NLL playing in Rochester for the original Knighthawks franchise, which announced their plans to relocate to Halifax in September of 2018.

The NLL Trade Deadline is Tuesday, March 15th at 12pm ET. It’s anticipated that a number of other high-profile moves will be made prior to next week’s deadline.

Update (March 9, 2022, 10:45am ET): In Halifax’s trade announcement, the team confirmed that, “In return, the Thunderbirds are sending their second-round draft pick in the 2023 NLL Entry Draft and their top first-round compensation pick in the same draft.”

The team announcement also confirmed the specifics surrounding the compensation picks, indicating, “If the Thunderbirds do not receive a first-round compensation pick for the 2023 NLL Entry Draft, the Knighthawks will receive the team’s best first-round compensatory pick in the 2024 NLL Entry Draft. If no first-round compensatory pick is awarded ahead of that draft, then it becomes the Thunderbirds’ best first-round compensation pick in the 2025 NLL Entry Draft. If Halifax does not receive a compensatory pick in that instance, then Rochester receives their first-round selection in the 2025 NLL Entry Draft, and Halifax receives Rochester’s second-round draft pick in that same draft in return.”

Update (March 9, 2022, 9pm ET): The NLL’s official transaction of today’s trade reads, “The Rochester Knighthawks have traded Shawn Evans and a conditional second round selection in the 2025 Entry Draft to the Halifax Thunderbirds in exchange for their second round selection in the 2023 Entry Draft and a future first round Entry Draft selection.”
