Philadelphia Wings sign free agent Eric Penney
The Lax Mag has confirmed with team General Manager & Head Coach, Paul Day, that the Philadelphia Wings have signed free agent goalie Eric Penney.
Penney, who had previously played five seasons for the Vancouver Warriors/Stealth franchise, was released by the BC-based club just prior to the start of the 2021/22 National Lacrosse League regular season.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to join the team and contribute towards a winning culture in Philly,” Penney told The Lax Mag. “There are a lot of great guys in that dressing room and I look forward to working with (Zach) Higgins and (Noah) Clayton. It will also be nice to have the diehard Philly fans in my corner when I play at Wells Fargo now.”
In 2020, the Wings received a sensational regular season from Higgins, who was backed up by a since retired Brandon Miller.
The Wings moved expected backup Angus Goodleaf to their physically unable to perform list at the start of the season, and soon after traded for Clayton in a deal with the Buffalo Bandits.
In the team’s last game on December 18th against the Toronto Rock, Higgins had a shot horrifically rip through his face mask, forcing the goalie to leave the game. Soon after, Higgins tweeted, “Thank you to everyone who reached out and to all my teammates for the support! I’m feeling good and looking forward to getting back after the holiday break!”
The Wings host the Georgia Swarm this Saturday (12pm ET) at the Wells Fargo Center.
