NLL Player Rankings: The most games played for one franchise

Nick Rose (Photo: Caroline Sherman)

After the first several weeks of the 2023-24 National Lacrosse League season are complete, The Lax Mag will publish a weekly NLL Player Ranking, examining the league’s Top 30 players from Week 1 right up until the end of the regular season.

TLM’s Top 30 NLL Player Rankings have nothing to do with reputations, career resumes, success in past seasons, whether we know a player personally, recognizing deserving players who’ve previously been passed over, player popularity, the size of their social media following, whether you slide into their DMs, or who others around the league tell us should get hype.

Our rankings, which only take into consideration a player’s performance for the current regular season, will be calculated using both our star-rating system after each game, but also a player’s season-long statistical position (based on per-game averages) across the league (more on both breakdowns below). Only players who have played two-thirds of their team’s games or more will qualify.

Bob Watson and Colin Doyle, Toronto Rock (Photo: Christian Bender)

Earlier this week, the 3-8 Toronto Rock went into full sell mode, dealing the likes of Chris Corbeil, Mitch de Snoo, and somewhat shockingly, highly regarded and respected goaltender Nick Rose.

Acquired by the Rock during the 2012 season from the Calgary Roughnecks, the same team he was sent to this week, few goalies have played the amount of minutes for a team as Rose has for the Rock over the last several seasons.

In fact, few players in NLL history have played as many games for one franchise as Rose did with Toronto. While Colin Doyle still holds the record for most regular season & playoff games played for the Rock franchise, last weekend, Rose tied fellow all-time franchise shot stopper Bob Watson, both registering 209 combined regular & post-season games for the team over their careers.

In this week’s NLL Player Rankings, we review the past & present players that have played the most games for a single franchise going back to the league’s Year 1 in 1987 and all the way up to this past weekend.

Below at the Top 30 players who’ve played the most combined regular season & playoff games for one franchise during their NLL careers, and even further below is our updated weekly NLL TOP 30 Player Rankings.

Dhane Smith, Buffalo Bandits (Photo: Alexis Goeller)

One of the highest active players listed above (14th overall), as he has all season long, Dhane Smith still sits #1 on our updated NLL TOP 30 leaderboard below. Kyle Rubisch, who at least last week was sill on San Diego’s IR, was removed from this week’s Top 30 after failing to play in two-thirds of the Seals game (see our ranking criteria here), while Holden Cattoni, Clarke Petterson and Dillon Ward were dropped to make room for Ryan Terefenko, Robert Church, Ryan Dilks and Ian MacKay.
