Kiel Matisz inks new three-year deal to remain with Philadelphia Wings
On Monday evening, the Philadelphia Wings confirmed that the club re-signed unrestricted free agent Kiel Matisz to a three-year deal.
The Philadelphia captain had declined a franchise-tag offer from the team on August 14th, and had somewhat surprisingly remained unsigned a week into free agency.
Twice a runner up for the NLL’s Transition Player of the Year Award, Matisz is considered one of the league’s most versatile players, ending the 2022 regular season in a more offensive role during Philadelphia’s late post-season push. Philadelphia qualified for the playoffs on the last weekend of the season, but were eliminated in the opening round by the San Diego Seals.
The re-addition of Matisz comes days after Philadelphia swayed fellow UFA Joe Resetarits away from the Albany FireWolves, and quietly added Chad Tutton via free agency as well.
Resetarits, who co-led the league with 47 goals in 2022, had 16 more than Philadelphia’s highest goal getter last year, Ben McIntosh (31).
The Wings did lose Kevin Crowley in free agency, however, the high-profile forward linking up with Curtis Dickson in San Diego. Corey Small, who finished just a goal shy of the team lead last year, recently signed with the Toronto Rock. Promising pro defender Jackson Suboch was selected in the Las Vegas Desert Dogs Expansion Draft.
Earlier this offseason, Philadelphia also added Jeff McComb to their coaching staff.
