Halifax hopeful to have Cody Jamieson back vs. Toronto
The Halifax Thunderbirds were without captain Cody Jamieson for their season opener at home against the Saskatchewan Rush this past Saturday night.
Jamieson was pulled during pre-game warmups and replaced by Rhys Duch just ten minutes prior to their 6pm ET start.
His last-minute absence did not deter the Thunderbirds from taking an OT thriller (12-11) against the rival Rush. Duch, a late free-agent signing for Halifax, scored a hat trick in his debut with the team.
While it is unclear what specifically sidelined Jamieson on Saturday, The Chronicle Herald reports that the injury was just “a little tweak” and not playing him was purely a “cautionary” decision. Halifax Head Coach Mike Accursi told the local paper that he’s hopeful Jamieson will return to the lineup as early as this coming Friday when the Thunderbirds host the Toronto Rock (6pm ET).
Last year, the two teams split their regular-season series. Toronto won the first game at home, 12-9, with Halifax claiming a 9-8 victory at the Scotiabank Centre three weeks later. Jamieson netted 4 goals and 2 assists in those games.
Friday night’s much anticipated clash between two early East Division favourites will be the first of three meetings between the two clubs this season.
