The British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League and Ontario Junior Lacrosse League have both confirmed their 2022 regular-season award winners, the BC-based league announcing their top talent today, Ontario during last month’s Minto Cup at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario.

Victoria Shamrocks captain Patrick Dodds, who was already a finalist for the National Lacrosse League’s Rookie of the Year earlier this year, was named the BCJALL’s Henry “Del” Delmonico Trophy winner, given to the league’s Most Valuable Player.

In Ontario, the province’s top two honours went to Whitby Warriors’ forward Brock Haley, the Jim Veltman Award winner (Most Outstanding Player), and Toronto Beaches’ breakout point producers, 18-year-old Willem Firth, named the league’s Green Gael Award recipient (Most Valuable Player).

Firth also won the Joe Nieuwendyk Award, presented to Ontario’s Rookie of the Year. Firth’s double accolade is the first time in OJLL history that the same player was presented both of those prestigious awards in the same season.

Former notable OJLL ROTYs include: Jeff Teat (2014), Mark Matthews (2008), Nick Rose (2007), Zack Greer (2003), Craig Conn (1999), Josh Sanderson (1994), John Tavares (1988) and even Nieuwendyk himself (1982) prior to the trophy being named in his honour.
