Anticipated promotion of Jimmy Quinlan to head coach made official by Rush

The full-time promotion of Jimmy Quinlan to the Saskatchewan Rush’s head-coaching role was made official by the team today, the franchise also confirming that Quinlan will also serve as the club’s associate general manager as well.

“I’ve got 100% confidence that Jimmy Quinlan is the right head coach to lead the Rush back to our championship ways,” Rush GM Derek Keenan said in today’s team statement. “As an original member of the Rush organization back to the inaugural season of 2006, Jimmy has great passion for the organization and of course the game of lacrosse.

“As interim head coach down the stretch of the 2022 season he proved he is ready to take on the challenge.”

Update (August 4, 2022, 3pm ET): The Rush later named Cam Sedgwick as their offensive coach.

After an uncharacteristically rough start to this past season, the Rush relieved Jeff McComb of his duties as bench boss while the team shockingly sat 4-10 and well outside of the playoff picture.

Quinlan, the team’s offensive coach at the time, and Keenan served as associate head coaches for the remainder of the 2022 regular season, with the understanding that Quinlan would officially take over the team’s bench prior to the start of the 2023 NLL season. Saskatchewan went 4-0 the rest of the way, only officially eliminated from post-season contention much later than most expected.

McComb was recently hired by the Philadelphia Wings as their offensive coordinator.

The Rush recently placed the franchise tag on former NLL Defensive Player of the Year Ryan Dilks. Unrestricted free agents Kyle Rubisch & Chris Corbeil rejected that same offer by the team just days earlier.
