Adam Jones: Future unknown due to lingering injury issues

Adam Jones will likely not be playing in the National Lacrosse League anytime soon.

During the Toronto Rock’s very first game of the 2019/20 NLL season, Jones sustained multiple broken ribs from a hit delivered by then New England Black Wolves forward, Stephan Leblanc.

He was placed on the Rock’s injured reserve list a week later.

While the Rock were hopeful Jones would return later that year, the forced cancellation of the NLL season due to the pandemic prevented any potential plans for an in-season comeback.

Nearly two years to the day later, Jones is still experiencing what he describes as, “Lingering issues that would prevent me from playing to my full potential.”

The Rock did re-sign Jones during the ensuing off-season, team Owner, President, and General Manager, Jamie Dawick, saying, “When he’s healthy, he is still one of the elite lefty scorers.”

Jones’ last full NLL season was in 2018, scoring 37 times for Toronto and adding 52 assists for a total of 89 points. He was also one of only four players in the NLL’s Top 50-point producers to finish with over 100 loose balls that season too.

A year later, he missed six starts after being sidelined mid-season with a lower-body injury. Jones returned to register 15 points over the team’s final three regular season games, plus added another 16 over two games during the playoffs.

“I’ve always competed with the intention of playing a significant role in the outcome of a game,” said Jones. “That’s what drives me to play and to support my teammates.”

Jones is unable to currently compete near the level required to meet those goals.

“My future is unknown at this point,” he added.

The Rock started the 2021/22 season with a 10-9 win over the Albany FireWolves. The team travels to Halifax for a highly anticipated clash with the 1-0 Thunderbirds this Friday (6pm ET).

Halifax captain, Cody Jamieson, was a last-minute scratch before the team’s season opener with what was described as just “a little tweak”. Thunderbirds’ Head Coach, Mike Accursi, told The Chronicle Herald that he was hopeful their star would be back for their game against Toronto.
