2023 NLL Entry Draft results: Dyson Williams selected first overall by Albany FireWolves

Dyson Williams (Whitby Warriors/Duke University) was selected first overall by the Albany FireWolves at the 2023 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft held at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre on Saturday, September 16.

Going second overall to the Las Vegas Desert Dogs was Williams’ former Warriors teammate Adam Poitras (Whitby Warriors/Loyola University). It’s only the third time in league history that former Junior A teammates were taken with the first two picks during the same draft (2018 Six Nations Arrows Austin Staats & Chris Cloutier + 2003 Burnaby Lakers Mark Miyashita & Taylor Wray).

Out of the 19 first round picks this year, only five were a team’s owned selection based on last year’s regular season standings & playoff finish. All other picks had previously been traded, dealt on the day or were compensatory selections obtained through the loss of an unrestricted free agent.
